Bank holiday list: If you have any important bank-related work to do, get it done quickly. Banks will be closed from October 18th to 23rd for Dhanteras and Diwali. However, bank holiday dates may vary in different cities. See when the bank holiday is in your city.

Bank Holidays: With the arrival of Diwali, the country becomes lively, markets are decorated, schools are closed, and banks are closed in many places. If you’re planning to complete any important banking work this week, first find out whether banks will be open in your city.

When will banks be closed during Diwali 2025?

This year, Diwali will be celebrated from October 18th to October 23rd. Starting on October 18th (Dhanteras) and continuing until October 23rd (Bhai Dooj), bank holidays vary in different cities.

October 18th (Dhanteras)

On Dhanteras, banks will be closed only in Guwahati. Banks will remain open in other cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Jaipur.

October 19 (Sunday): It is a Sunday, so banks will be closed in all states.

October 20 (Diwali): Banks will be closed in Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Itanagar, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Thiruvananthapuram, Vijayawada. Banks will remain open in Belapur, Bhubaneswar, Imphal, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, and Srinagar.

October 21 (Diwali Amavasya/Lakshmi Puja/Deepawali/Govardhan Puja): Banks will remain open in Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Gangtok, Imphal, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, and Srinagar, while banks will remain open in all other cities.

October 22 (Govardhan Puja, Gujarati New Year): Banks will be closed in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Gangtok, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur. Banks will remain open in all other cities.

October 23 (Bhai Dooj, Chitragupta Jayanti): Banks will be closed in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Imphal, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Shimla. Banks will remain open in all other cities.

Banks Closed in These Cities for Chhath

The evening Arghya (offering) of Chhath Puja will take place on Monday, October 27, 2025. According to the RBI holiday calendar, banks will be closed on this day in Kolkata, Patna, and Ranchi. Additionally, banks will be closed for Chhath in Patna and Ranchi on October 28.

What to do if you have important work to do on a bank holiday?

Banks across the country are closed for festivals or special occasions. However, these holidays are not consistent across the country; banks remain closed in some cities while others remain open. Therefore, if you need to deposit a check or visit a branch to complete an important task, these tasks will not be possible on the holiday.

Online Banking Will Remain Open

There’s no need to panic on a bank holiday. A bank holiday doesn’t mean all your banking needs will be halted. Nowadays, you can perform most tasks from home using mobile or internet banking. Online services like IMPS, NEFT, and RTGS remain operational. Payments, transfers, and bill payments via UPI continue uninterrupted. It is also possible to withdraw money, check balance or get a mini statement from the ATM.

The month of August is about to begin. Holidays are very important for people working in the stock market and those using banking services. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the official list of bank holidays for the month of August.

During this entire month, government and private banks across the country will remain closed for a total of 15 days. These holidays include national festivals like Independence Day, Ganesh Chaturthi and Janmashtami as well as cultural and religious festivals celebrated in various states. Apart from this, like every month, banks will remain closed on every Sunday and on the second and fourth Saturdays.

So if you have to do any urgent work at the bank, plan ahead keeping in mind the August holidays. Especially around festivals and weekends, when banks may remain closed for two or three days in a row.

If we talk about weekends, then in August, banks will remain closed on 3rd, 9th, 10th, 17th, 23rd, 24th and 31st. These are the days that fall under regular weekend holidays. That is, all Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Apart from this, there may be holidays in your state, the details of which are given below.

Banks closed in Gangtok, Sikkim on August 8

On August 9, there will be a bank holiday in many states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and Jhulan Purnima.

Banks will remain closed on August 13 in Imphal, Manipur on Patriotic Day.

On August 15, there will be a holiday across India on Independence Day, along with the Parsi New Year (Shahinshahi), Janmashtami will also be celebrated in some states.

How will work be done when the bank is closed?

There is no need to panic. Most banking services have gone digital these days. Be it net banking, mobile banking, UPI payments or withdrawing money from ATMs. All these facilities are available at all times, even on holidays. Yes, some tasks like cheque clearing or processing of promissory notes, which comes under the Negotiable Instruments Act, are not possible without banks being open.

Talking about the stock market, there will be two holidays apart from the weekend. The first holiday will be on August 15, Independence Day. This day is Friday. The second holiday will be for Ganesh Chaturthi, which will fall on August 27. This day will be Wednesday.

Around 500 personnel of Central Security Forces, PAC and Police are on shift-wise duty in the Kashi Vishwanath Dham complex.

In Hinduism, Mauni Amavasya is considered a holy day. It is believed that by bathing on this day, a person gets freedom from all sins and also gets relief from many problems of life. This year, Mauni Amavasya is on 29 January 2025. This day has been declared a local holiday in many places.

Local holiday has been declared in many districts of UP. Mauni Amavasya is also called Maghi Amavasya, as it falls in the month of Magh. On this auspicious occasion, the Education Department has declared a holiday in schools.

Lakhs of devotees are reaching Mahakumbh on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. The conditions are such that there is no space even to set foot in the Kumbh. On Sunday, the Mahakumbh set another record when 1.74 crore devotees took a dip in the Sangam in a single day. The number of devotees is increasing not only in Kumbh but also in Kashi. In view of the huge crowd reaching Kashi, the District Magistrate has declared a holiday in schools.

Entry of vehicles banned in these areas…

Due to the huge crowd coming to Varanasi for the Mahakumbh, it is taking hours to reach Gate number four from Godauliya Chowk. Considering this situation, the administration has decided that VIP, protocol and police vehicles will not ply between Godauliya and Madagin till the Mahakumbh. Only VIPs with Z-plus security will be allowed to travel in four-wheelers in this area. This step of the administration has been taken to control the crowd and traffic.

Administration engaged in crowd management…

Due to Mahakumbh, the administration has made massive security arrangements to manage the huge crowd in Varanasi. Police Commissioner, 7 ADCPs and 10 ACPs along with 8 IPS officers are deployed on the roads.

Public Holidays: The Tamil Nadu government has declared a 5-day public holiday in the state from January 14 to January 19, 2025 on the special occasion of Pongal. During this period, all schools, colleges and government offices will remain closed.

This decision has been taken with the aim of allowing students and employees to spend time with their families during the festival and celebrate the festival of Pongal with great pomp.

The Tamil Nadu government said in its press release that January 17 has been declared an additional holiday. Which was earlier kept as a working day. The Pongal festival will begin from January 14. After this, there will be holidays on January 15, Thiruvalluvar Day on January 16 and Ujjavar Thirunal on January 18-19.

The aim of the government is to give students and employees an opportunity to go to their homes and celebrate the festival with their families. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the demands of different sections. This is a big relief news for students and employees. After the government’s announcement, this long holiday is no less than a gift for students and employees in Tamil Nadu.

In North India, these holidays will be on Lohri, Makar Sankranti and Hazrat Ali’s birth anniversary. In South India, Pongal, Thiruvalluvar Diwas and Ujjavar Thirunal will be celebrated. For this, the states have started declaring holidays. In some states, there will be a 4-day holiday and in some, there will be a 5-day public holiday. In between, there will also be a holiday on Sunday and the second Saturday. In the states of South India, there is going to be a week-long holiday.

There will be 5 days of holiday in Telangana

According to the report, the Education Department of the Telangana government had released the school calendar for 2024-25. According to the calendar, there will be Makar Sankranti holidays in the state from January 13 to 17. January 11 is the second Saturday and January 12 is Sunday. On Monday, January 13, state government employees can take an additional day off. In such a situation, the weekend is going to be long in this state.

3 to 4 days holiday in North India

According to Informal News.com, January 11 is the second Saturday, so banks will be closed. Many government offices will also be closed on the second Saturday. This day is also Missionary Day/Imoinu Iratpa. Therefore, there will be a holiday in Aizawl and Imphal in North-East India. Since January 12 is a Sunday, there will be a holiday in the entire country. The festival of Lohri is on January 13, so there will be a holiday in Punjab (Reserved), Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, because Lohri is celebrated with great pomp in these states. The festival of Makar Sankranti is on January 14, so there will be a holiday in many states of North India.

The Punjab State Child Rights Protection Commission has taken strict notice of private schools not complying with the orders of the Education Department regarding the timing of school opening in summer and winter season.

Commission Chairman Kanwardeep Singh said that many private schools ignore the instructions of the Education Department and open the schools before the scheduled time, due to which the safety of children may be threatened in foggy and cold weather.

Recently, cases of accidents with school buses have come to light in many places, due to which the lives of children are in danger. Taking cognizance of this matter, the commission has instructed the school education department to take strict action against any private school that violates government orders.

He said that if a school does not follow the government orders and an accident occurs, the principal and management of the school concerned will be responsible for it. In this regard, the Commission has instructed all District Education Officers, Child Protection Officers and the Police Department to take immediate action to ensure the compliance of government orders in schools.
