A government statement said that a total of 47 liquor shops will be closed due to the ban on the sale of liquor at 19 places from April 1. The sale of liquor will be banned in some other cities including Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, Orchha, Maihar, Chitrakoot, Datia, Amarkantak and Salkanpur. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had announced a ban on the sale of liquor on January 23 after the approval of the new excise policy. Due to the ban on liquor, the state government will suffer a loss of about Rs 450 crore.

Renewal fees will increase by 20 percent

However, in the cities where the sale of liquor will be stopped, there will be no restriction on bringing liquor from other cities and consuming it. To ban carrying and consuming liquor in the places where the shops will be closed, there is a need to make a law like Bihar Liquor Prohibition Act 2016. Officials said that apart from Bihar, prohibition law is also applicable in Gujarat, while only the Excise Act is applicable in Madhya Pradesh. The government statement said that under the new excise policy for the next financial year, the renewal fee of liquor shops has been increased by 20 percent.
