Indian Railways Plan for Vande Bharat sleeper Trains: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited along with Russian company TMH are involved in the process of manufacturing 120 Vande Bharat sleeper trains at Railway’s Coach Factory in Latur. Whereas, Titagarh Wagons and BHEL are jointly manufacturing 80 trains.

In order to facilitate its premium trains, Indian Railways is ready to bring a new sleeper version of the popular Vande Bharat Express soon. This project comes after the success of Vande Bharat Express AC Chair Car which will give passengers a chance to have a comfortable sleep during night travel.

Let us tell you that the currently running Vande Bharat travels during the day, while the Vande Bharat sleeper can also be run for traveling at night on long routes. Vande Bharat sleeper trains can replace Rajdhani trains. Railways estimate that Vande Bharat sleeper train may start operating in the next 24 months.

Alok Kumar Mishra, GM Mechanical at Rail Vikas Nigam Limited ( RVNL ) told TOI in an interview that work on the Vande Bharat sleeper train is going on at a fast pace. Presently, work is going on to make a prototype sleeper Vande Bharat train at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) located in Chennai. It is expected to be ready in about 24 months. Apart from this, an important initiative is underway to make 200 Vande Bharat sleeper train sets.

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited along with Russian company TMH is involved in the process of manufacturing 120 Vande Bharat sleeper trains at Railway’s Coach Factory in Latur. Whereas, Titagarh Wagons and BHELTogether they are building the remaining 80 trains.

In this way, the process of making a total of 200 Vande Bharat sleeper trains is in progress. RVNL-TMH has won the contract by quoting Rs 120 crore per train set. The Rs 35,000-crore project involves construction of 120 Vande Bharat sleeper trains and their maintenance over a period of 35 years.

According to Alok Kumar, GM Mechanical in RVNL, the project will start by the end of August and there is a plan to make these trains ready within the next two years. He said that the objective of introducing sleeper Vande Bharat trains is to provide comfortable and fast travel facilities to the passengers at night. It is estimated that these new sleeper trains can replace Rajdhani Express trains.
