Delhi School Closed: A hearing was held in the Supreme Court today on the issue of air pollution in Delhi-NCR. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court made it clear that Group-4 restrictions will continue for the time being in the national capital and surrounding areas.

The Supreme Court has entrusted the responsibility of opening schools to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The Supreme Court said, ‘Now the CAQM will further decide whether the school should be opened at this time or not.

It is believed that schools may reopen in Delhi-NCR, as the Supreme Court has allowed the CAQM to consider resuming physical classes. The Supreme Court has drawn attention to the lack of access to mid-day meals and online education. The Supreme Court also said that from November 18 to 23, the Delhi government has allowed such trucks to enter in violation of the guidelines of GRAP-4. On the issue of pollution, the Supreme Court reprimanded the Centre, CAQM i.e. Air Quality Management Commission and asked why the negligence on 23 points?

What did the Supreme Court say about the ban on the entry of trucks in Delhi?

During the previous hearing, the Supreme Court had directed the police to set up checkpoints at 113 entry points in Delhi and sought the recording and details of CCTV cameras at 13 entry points of heavy vehicles like trucks. During the hearing in this regard today, the court commissioner appointed by the Supreme Court said that there were no barricades at many points and the staff was not visible at many places.

Senior advocate Gopal Shankarnarayanan told the court that the AQI is currently 600 in Delhi. On this, the Supreme Court asked to show the Commissioner’s report. The Supreme Court said that without seeing the report we can say that there is still no check point. The Supreme Court said, ‘We wanted to know whether there are such check posts. Who restricts the entry of such trucks?

On this, the Supreme Court said that it is negligence to deploy police at 23 points and not to deploy at others. The Supreme Court asked, ‘Okay, then should we file a case against the Delhi Police Commissioner?’ We will ask CAQM to issue show cause notices to all the agencies mentioned here. Also they will be asked to prosecute.
