On Wednesday, UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar wrote a letter to the Chief Secretaries of the states and union territories urging them to complete the pending mandatory biometric update by organizing camps in schools.

A release issued by the authority said, “UIDAI has joined hands with the Department of School Education and Literacy to make the mandatory biometric update (MBU) status related to Aadhaar of school children available on the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) application. 17 crore Aadhaar cards not updated

UIDAI said that it is necessary to complete Aadhaar biometric update on time for children at the age of five and then at the age of 15.

You will also get a Share ID option in the app, through which you can share your identity digitally. The facility of free update has also been extended.

Giving relief to the common citizens, UIDAI has extended the free facility of online update in Aadhaar till 14 June 2026. This means that you can update the information online without any charge by logging in to the official website of UIDAI and uploading the necessary documents.

Step 1: First of all you have to go to the website myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and click on ‘Login’.

Step 2: After this a new web page will appear, where you have to type your Aadhaar number. After entering the Aadhaar number, enter the captcha and then click on ‘Login with OTP’.

Step 3: Once you log in through OTP, a new webpage will open where you will have to click on ‘Download’ Aadhaar.

Step 4: After this, a new page will open again where you will have to click on the option ‘Do you want a masked Aadhaar?’ After clicking on this option, click on Download.

Step 5: Your masked Aadhaar will be downloaded. But you will need a password to open it. That is, you will have to enter a password first to open it.

As a password, you will have to enter the first four letters of your name in capital letters and the year of birth in YYYY format as per Aadhaar. For example, suppose your name on the Aadhaar card is Komal and the year of birth is 2001, then your password will be KOMA2001.

UIDAI posted on social media platform X, “UIDAI has extended the facility of free online document upload till 14 December 2024 for the convenience of millions of Aadhaar number holders. This free service is available only on myAadhaar portal. UIDAI is constantly encouraging people to keep the documents updated in their Aadhaar.”

Aadhaar is a unique number and no citizen can have a duplicate number as it is linked to their biometrics. Its biometrics process helps in identifying fake identities.

In a press release issued by PIB on 10 November 2022, it was said, “Citizens who had their Aadhaar issued 10 years ago and have never updated it in the meantime, such Aadhaar number holders are encouraged to update their documents. UIDAI had earlier issued a press release urging people to keep their documents with them. In the recently issued gazette notification, it has also been clearly stated that citizens have to keep doing this after every 10 years. Keeping the documents updated in Aadhaar helps in ease of living, getting better service.”

What is the fee or charge for submitting documents for Aadhaar updation?

Documents can be updated free of cost at the Aadhaar centre. However, if someone updates after the deadline for free update, the applicable fee for that will be Rs 50.

mAadhaar is an official mobile application developed by UIDAI that can be installed on mobile devices. It provides an interface to Aadhaar holders to keep their Aadhaar records registered with UIDAI. This record includes demographic information and a photo along with the Aadhaar number. It has the facility of Aadhaar tamper proof QR code for offline verification. Like eAadhaar, it can also be downloaded for free. It is also recognized as a valid ID.

4. Aadhaar PVC Card

The latest version of Aadhaar is the Aadhaar PVC Card. The PVC-based Aadhaar card is digitally signed. It contains a tamper-proof QR code, photograph and demographic details along with several security measures. You can apply for it online by paying a fee of Rs 50/- using your Aadhaar number, virtual ID or enrollment ID at uidai.gov.in or https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/genricPVC. A letter has been received from UIDAI, in which it has been said that Aadhaar should not be used as proof of DoB. In today’s time, Aadhaar Card is not only the biggest document of your identity, but it has also become mandatory for all financial purposes. To get rid of this problem, Unique Identification Authority of India i.e. UIDAI has also given the facility to the users to get their photo changed. However, let us tell you here that this work cannot be done online.

Aadhaar users will have to go to the nearest Aadhaar center.

All the information including name, address, date of birth is mentioned on the Aadhaar card. Along with all this, your photo is printed on it, which reveals your identity. To get your old photo on the card changed and a new photo installed, you will have to go to your nearest Aadhaar Center. To find out, you can check the list of all the nearest Aadhaar centers by visiting the UIDAI website (appointments.uidai.gov.in).

A fee of Rs 100 will be charged for this work.

• On the new page, enter Aadhaar number or enrollment ID or virtual ID.
• Submit the captcha code and click on Send OTP option.
• One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile number.

In this, the responsibility of verification has been entrusted to the nominated officer from the Rural Development Department at the state level, DDC at the district level, subdivision officer at the sub-division level and revenue officer at the block level.
